OUR SURGEONS
Dr. Daniel G. Turgeon
Dr. Daniel G. Turgeon is a native of New England, who came down to Washington, D.C. in 1978 to finish his medical education at Georgetown University School of Medicine. After graduation, he did a rotating medical-surgical internship at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, and then entered the Public Health Service in 1981 as a commissioned officer.
In 1983, Dr. Turgeon returned to the Washington DC area to begin a residency in General Surgery at Georgetown University Hospital. He completed the program in 1987 and was invited into private practice in Fairfax, Virginia.
Dr. Turgeon practiced at Fairfax Hospital and Fair Oaks Hospital and was one of the first surgeons to practice at the new Reston Hospital Center when it opened in 1987. In 2000, Dr. Turgeon went into solo practice in Reston and limited his surgery exclusively to Reston Hospital Center. In 2006, he welcomed Dr. Karim S. Trad to his practice. In January 2009, they adopted a new name for their group practice, Reston Surgical Associates.
Dr. Turgeon is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is Board Certified. He has over twenty-five years of experience in the field of General Surgery with particular emphasis on Laparoscopic and Minimally Invasive Surgery. Dr. Turgeon performed one of the first Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplications for anti-reflux in Fairfax County. Since then he has performed over one thousand Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplications and literally thousands of laparoscopic surgeries.
With the advent of Natural Orifice Surgery, Dr. Turgeon and his partner, Dr. Trad, obtained advanced training in Europe and became the first surgeons in the greater Washington DC metro area to perform Tranoral Incisionless Fundoplication for the treatment of gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD). Dr. Turgeon also has a special interest in the diagnosis and management of breast diseases and he performs many endocrine surgical procedures.
Dr. Turgeon has consistently been voted by his peers as one of "Washington's Best Doctors" in Washingtonian magazine's bi-ennial survey. He has participated in medical missions in Peru and the Philippines with Interplast and with Doctors' Overseas Lending a Helping Hand Dr. Turgeon has been an officer of the Medical Staff at Reston Hospital Center and served as its president from 2004 to 2008. He currently serves on the Board of Reston Hospital Center.

Dr. Karim S. Trad
Dr. Karim TRAD was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon. Medicine is a longstanding tradition in his family, as his grandfather, an obstetrician, founded Trad Hospital in 1936. His medical training was completed entirely in the US, starting with Medical School at the Medical University of South Carolina (M.D. in 1986), a six-year General Surgery Residency at The George Washington University, in Washington, D.C., and a Fellowship in Endoscopic Surgery with world-famous Dr. Jeffrey Ponsky, in Cleveland, Ohio.
He then returned to George Washington University Hospital and headed the newly established Laparoscopic Surgery Program into the mid-nineties, at the height of the Minimally Invasive revolution, which transformed General Surgery. Among many achievements, he is credited in performing the first Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication in Washington, D.C., and in establishing the area's first Laparoscopic Training facility at GW.
In 1996, as the clouds of war appeared to fade in the Middle East, Dr. Trad and his wife, Rhonda (a Georgetown University-trained economist), decided to return to Lebanon to their families, hoping to give back and contribute to the community they had left behind. Dr. Trad joined his brother and father in running Trad Hospital as its Medical Director, and established a thriving surgical practice.
Ten years later, in 2006, as war raged once again, Dr. Trad and his wife Rhonda returned to the United States, determined to give their five children a stable environment and a more promising future. Dr. Trad joined Dr. Daniel Turgeon in Reston's pre-eminent General Surgery practice, first as an associate in November 2006, and eventually as a Partner in Reston Surgical Associates, since January 2009. He brings more than 15 years experience in managing complex gastrointestinal, abdominal, breast and endocrine surgical problems. He has a particular interest in Minimally Invasive surgical approaches, anti-reflux surgery and Natural Orifice Surgery (NOS).
Dr. Trad is a Clinical Assistant of Surgery at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Services in Washington, DC.
